Compulsory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Information

Compulsory continuing professional development CPD, is a concept brought into law by the General Dental Council.  Simply put, it states that those working in the dental industry must undergo a specific amount of professional development with in each five year period or cycle of their working life.  The exact legalities of this can be read at the government's website

The GDC states that dentists should do a minimum of 75hrs cpd in each cycle.  This includes 10 hours dedicated to medical emergencies, 5 hours on disinfection and decontamination and 5 hours of radiation protection.

The reason for this CPD is to ensure that patients get the best and most up to date treatment available, as well as maintain public confidence in the dentists register.

"Professional Development"  can be achieved through a variety of means including: courses, seminars, reading and studying.  Together with our education partners we have set out a list of a activities aimed at forfilling these CBD requirements.

These Courses run for one day and use experts from Kings Colege Hospital.  The aim to enhance dentists knowledge and skills in the field of dentistry.

Hi

Just to say, dentists need to do 250 hours per 5 year cycle, with 75 being verifiable.
DCPs need to do 150 hours with 50 being verifiable per 5 year period.
